A therapeutic modality that uses electrical stimulation to administer medication across the skin to inflamed or injured tissues.  There are two electrodes applied to the skin.  The first electrode has the medication on it and it is applied to the area being treated while the second electrode is applied to your body nearby.  Dexamethasone is a common medication used to decrease inflammation, decrease swelling, and decrease muscle spasm.

  • Slight pin prick tingling sensation
  • Skin redness where electrode was placed
  • Tiny water blister in area where medication electrode was placed
  • Dryness or rough skin where medication was administered
